Vilen Looks Back at His Hits So Far and Why Fame Hasn't Changed Him

Hindi singer-songwriter and filmmaker released his EP 'Handmade' earlier in 2024 and is plotting a new EP called 'GoodGober'

Ever since the release of his debut song “Ek Raat” in 2018, it’s been apparent that singer-songwriter Vilen prefers quality over quantity. After all, it took him until 2024 to release his debut EP Handmade.

There’s clearly a process that the artist follows and we’re not talking about studio time. “The step which takes the longest is when the song is getting produced in my head, there’s video and audio production going on simultaneously in my head and when everything is complete, then I move on to actual execution and it’s a quick process,” he says. The artist adds with a laugh, “I actually know that the song is complete before it is actually made.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone India, Vilen talks about the reception for Handmade EP, the pressures of social media algorithms and his next release. Excerpts:
