TED DANSON & MARY STEENBURGEN - 'We' Don't Take Anything for Granted'

Every morning, Ted Danson brings his wife, actress Mary Steenburgen, a cup of coffee. “I can’t ever be mad at him for anything because that one act is the best thing in the world,” she says. Danson, 77, insists, “It’s me at my most manly, to be honest. I forage for coffee.” The next few hours entail taking their beloved dog Blue for a walk and playing Wordle, Connections and Spelling Bee. “We’re bright enough to do these games together,” allows Steenburgen, 72. “So we each have half a really amazing brain.”

Most recently the duo added another item on their daily to-do list: star together as love interests in the second season of Danson’s hit Netflix comedy A Man on the Inside. Married since October 1995, the two began dating after first costarring in the 1994 film Pontiac Moon. Danson had just split from Whoopi Goldberg and finalized his divorce from his second wife, Casey Coates, with whom he shares daughters Kate and Katrina; Steenburgen was raising her kids Charlie and Lilly after ending her marriage to actor Malcolm McDowell.

Three decades later the two are more grateful than ever to have found each other. “I would never have imagined that I would be madly in love and have fun and laugh in my late 70s,” says Danson. Adds Steenburgen: “For two people who in some ways are quite different, we are weirdly compatible.”

Congratulations on your 30th anniversary. Did you do anything fun to celebrate?

TED DANSON I had to work. But then the next day we got on a plane and flew to Japan, just the two of us.

MARY STEENBURGEN We’d never been there, and it was No. 1 on our wish list for travel. We really loved it. The whole experience blew our minds.
