AFTER A SEASON OF HEALING, THE PRINCESS OF WALES STEPS INTO SUMMER WITH CONFIDENCE AND A STEADY EYE ON THE FUTURE

- SIMON PERRY

Kate's Path Forward

It was a moment of quiet strength. Sitting tall in the open carriage at Trooping the Colour, King Charles’s official birthday parade, on June 14, Princess Kate smiled at the thousands lining the Mall. She didn’t say a word, but the message was unmistakable. Dressed in a striking aquamarine Catherine Walker coatdress and proudly wearing the Irish Guards brooch, she looked radiant—and remarkably steady—as her three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, sat alongside her, and Prince William, 42, rode ahead on horseback.

Louis and George took in the grand spectacle from their carriage seats on June 14-with Charlotte just behind Kate-as they traveled along the Mall in London during Trooping the Colour.

Just a year ago Kate, 43, had taken part in the same ceremony while undergoing chemotherapy for an undisclosed form of cancer, her role more limited as she focused on healing. This time she was present at every turn—including a significant appearance on the parade ground alongside Charles, 76, and Queen Camilla, 77, fulfilling her role as honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards.

Louis mirrored King Charles and Queen Camilla's waves (and was told to tone it down by big brother George!) as the family greeted the crowds from the Buckingham Palace balcony. "Another brilliant day," William and Kate later shared on Instagram.
