HOUSE OF BEAUTY MISS CUTIE

Can you tell us a little bit about you do and how you got started?

I’m Nicole, owner of House of Beauty Miss Cutie Beauty Supply. We sell hair care products and beauty needs for all nationalities. I’ve always been a diva with the hair thing. I used to do my own hair back in the day. I always wanted to be a beautician, but a few years before we opened our beauty supply, we used to sell bundles, me and my husband Robert Gates. It was just brought to us that we should maybe open a beauty supply store here in Indianapolis.

So, you guys started off in a smaller store inside Washington Square Mall. How did you end up expanding into such a large space?

We started off in a 1700 sq, ft. store. We outgrew that in nine months. At that point, we just knew it was time to move on. We wanted to stay in the small space for a little while just until things got going. Then, we ended up moving into a 4000 sq. ft. space, which where we are in now. We’re looking into moving on into an even bigger space.

Wow! When people walk into this store, there’s so much stuff. It might be overwhelming. So, when they do come in, where do they end up starting?

The wigs - it just totally blows their mind when they see the wig wall. In our smaller store, we started with maybe 45 to 60 wigs. Once we moved it grew to over 300 different styles. We get every color in every style wig we get. So, I would say over 15-2000 wig, but 300 different styles.

Tell me about the colors because your wig that you have on right now is colorful. The wigs on the wall are colorful. What makes you select such a colorful variety of options?
