Should you be trying the viral 'morning shed' routine or is it just another fad? Karen Alfonso finds out

Rise & Shine

There's always been some sort of nighttime beauty routine that women indulge in - from brushing one's hair a hundred times, to slathering on cold cream and putting on curlers before hitting the sack. But, in 2025, there's a new fad - the 'morning shed' - that's setting social media on fire.

What Exactly Is The 'Morning Shed'?

Think heatless curlers, face tape, chin straps, overnight sheet masks - and then 'shedding' all of these in the morning, to wake up looking picture perfect. The whole premise of this trend: 'the uglier you get to bed, the prettier you wake up in the morning'.

Should You Try It Out?

Does the 'morning shed' actually translate into a marked difference for your skin? Lucknow-based dermatologist Dr Nidhi Singh Tandon, founder - The Skin Art Clinic, is unsure of this social media trend.

"As a dermatologist, I see the appeal, and yes, some of these steps (such as protecting curls with satin or using hydrating eye patches) have merit. But others, such as face taping or chin straps, are more temporary hacks than long-term fixes. If they make you feel pampered, great - but don't count on overnight transformations."
