When Penélope Cruz first landed in Los Angeles at the start of her career, she was collected from the airport by Salma Hayek, even though the pair had never met. Hayek told Cruz she was taking her back to her house because "this is hard at the beginning and you're going to feel very lonely".

"I ended up also sleeping in her room because I was scared," Cruz explained during a 2022 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "And you know, that's the way we met. And on top of that, in the middle of the night she says that I was holding her hand because I was afraid, I don't know, I was dreaming," the star added.

Hayek's kind act sparked a solid friendship spanning over decades, and in a new issue of Vogue Arabia, Cruz interviewed her long-time mate.
