'A LION HAS PASSED'

HOLLYWOOD MOURNS FOLLOWING THE DEATH OF THE MAN WHO WAS MUCH MORE THAN A MOVIE STAR

The death of screen legend Robert Redford has been met with a flood of tributes.

The actor, filmmaker and activist passed away at his Utah home at the age of 89 on September 16. He leaves behind wife Sibylle Szaggars and daughters Shauna and Amy from his first marriage to Lola Van Wagenen.

Redford was a staple on the big screen for more than five decades, starring alongside a who's who of Hollywood's leading ladies.

“It hit me hard this morning when I read that Bob was gone,” said frequent costar Jane Fonda, who made five films with the actor – most recently, 2017's Our Souls at Night. “I can't stop crying. He meant a lot to me and was a beautiful person in every way. He stood for an America we have to keep fighting for.”

Meryl Streep starred with Redford in 1985's Out of Africa – and they reunited in 2007's Lions For Lambs.

“One of the lions has passed,” she said in a statement. “Rest in peace my lovely friend.”
