"I was inspired by the seasonal coffeehouse drink with a cult following — the pumpkin spice latte," baker extraordinaire Sally McKenney tells Us. “It’s become such an icon in modern American culture, and I thought it would be fun to put a coffeehouse spin on one of my favorite fall bakes."

Pumpkin Spice Latte Muffins

MAKES 12 MUFFINS

INGREDIENTS

For the muffins

1¾ cups all-purpose flour

2 tsp pumpkin pie spice

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp ground cinnamon

½ tsp salt

¼ tsp ground ginger

1½ cups canned pumpkin puree

½ cup vegetable oil

½ cup granulated sugar

½ cup brown sugar

2 large eggs, at room temperature

¼ cup milk

2½ tsp espresso powder
