A BREAKTHROUGH new vaccine has shown promise in treating precancerous cervical lesions, which could cut American women's risk of developing deadly cervical cancer.

Dutch scientists found that giving the vaccine to women with high-risk precancerous cells halted the deadly disease before it could evolve! "Nearly all premalignant cervical lesions and cervical cancers are caused by HPV infection, with HPV16 implicated in the majority of cases," says Dr. Refika Yigit of University Medical Center Groningen.
The vaccine in this study, Vvax001, is a new version that specifically targets HPV16.
HPV16 is one of the nine strains of the virus targeted by the current U.S. vaccine, Gardasil 9.
