FAT FEEDS CANCER FEARS

A HIGH-FAT diet rewires liver cells and makes them more prone to becoming cancerous, according to a new study from MIT.

The researchers found when subjected to a high-fat diet, mature liver cells known as hepatocytes revert to an immature, stem cell-like state. This helps them survive the stress caused by the fatty foods, but in the long term, it makes them more likely to become cancerous.

A high-fat diet causes inflammation and a buildup of fat in the liver, a condition known as steatotic liver disease, formerly known as fatty liver disease, which increases the risk of developing liver cancer.
