No one saw it coming - least of all Ellen DeGeneres. A-listers, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Katy Perry, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, had gathered on Jan. 31 to celebrate Portia de Rossi's 50th birthday, but were surprised with a vow renewal as well. Dressed in the same Zac Posen gown she'd worn during their 2008 wedding and carrying a small bouquet, Portia walked up to a stunned Ellen, 65, as Brandi Carlile sang and played a romantic song on the acoustic guitar at the couple's newest California home. Next up, ordained pal Kris Jenner took to a microphone to officiate...with Ellen continuing to look shell-shocked.

There's a reason the comedian appeared so speechless: She hates surprises, according to a source, which is a fact Portia surely was aware of following 18-plus years by Ellen's side. "There was definitely more to the vow renewal than anybody knows," the source teases, noting that Ellen was "secretly fuming" both during and after the ceremony. "While most people in attendance said it was a sweet gesture, others are whispering that the whole thing is a sign of trouble in Ellen and Portia's relationship."
