As her film The Gorge hits screens, Anya Taylor-Joy reveals how a strong marriage is crucial to her work

There is nothing that actress Anya Taylor-Joy likes better than an unusual love story – and she feels lucky to have found happiness in her own life with her musician husband.

The star of The Queen's Gambit has been revealing just how happy she is with Malcolm McRae, of rock band More. “I love him so much. I'm so lucky; he's the greatest,” she said in a recent TV interview with Drew Barrymore.

The couple share the same birthday – 16 April – and Malcolm revealed that they first met at a music studio in 2021. They married in a private ceremony in New Orleans the following year, and then had a second time in Venice.

Anya says of their relationship: “My dad told me when I was a kid that you're not looking for another half to make you whole, that you are whole.

“And if you're lucky enough, you meet another whole. And then you become a greater sum of your parts.”
