A generation’s favourite pop singer and her boyfriend are getting married – and could become the world’s most powerful couple

She has built an empire on writing songs about heartbreak and lost love but Taylor Swift finally got her own happy ending last week as she and her boyfriend, the NFL player Travis Kelce, announced their engagement.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the couple declared in an Instagram post shared with their millions of followers which showed them kissing in a garden, surrounded by flowers.

Sparkling on Taylor’s left hand amid the summer blooms was a dazzling diamond ring, which experts estimate to be worth anything up to £4m.

The couple’s famous fans were quick to congratulate them, with the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Duchess of Sussex, David Beckham and Ellen DeGeneres among the tens of millions of followers to like the post.

President Trump even weighed in during a cabinet meeting, telling reporters: “I wish them a lot of luck. I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy. I think that she’s a terrific person, so I wish them a lot of luck.”
