A-listers dress to the nines for this year's Emmy Awards, where the British teenage star of Adolescence makes history

SMALL SCREEN, BIG IMPACT

It’s the night when the biggest names in international TV are celebrated – and the annual Emmy Awards also provide a chance for the most glamorous stars of the small screen to walk the red carpet in their most stylish outfits.

The Wednesday star Jenna Ortega abandoned her Netflix character’s gothic look for a spectacular barely-there top, adorned with giant jewels. She completed the look - courtesy of Givenchy by Sarah Burton, and said to have been inspired by a similar outfit worn by Isabella Rossellini in the 1992 film Death Becomes Her - with a black pencil skirt slit to the thigh.

The actress, 22, was not nominated for an award at this year’s ceremony, held last weekend at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, but walked on stage hand in hand with her costar Catherine Zeta-Jones to present an award.

imageJenna’s fellow former child star Selena Gomez turned heads in a scarlet halterneck Louis Vuitton gown, paired with jewellery from Tiffany & Co. The Only Murders in the Building actress also accessorised with the huge diamond engagement ring given to her by her fiancé, the DJ Benny Blanco. The two, who are reported to be just days away from their wedding, put on a loved-up display as they arrived, cuddling up for photographers.

Also signing up to the red-dress trend was the Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney, who drew plenty of attention in a strapless scarlet Oscar de la Renta gown, which she paired with a 120-carat diamond necklace by Lorraine Schwartz.
