Friend and inspiration to the stars, French interiors designer Vincent Darre welcomes us inside the chic apartment that perfectly shows off his flamboyant style

Enfant terrible of design Vincent Darré was born in Paris and began his career in fashion, working for top houses such as Moschino, Yves Saint Laurent and Prada. But it was only when he moved into interiors that he found true fulfilment, giving free rein to the baroque, sometimes surreal and always playful style for which he’s become renowned. Now, as he welcomes us into his flamboyant new apartment near the Eiffel Tower, we enter the epicentre of his creative world, his “little dream palace”, as he calls it.

Famous for his parties, Vincent constantly throws his home open to his “chosen family” of friends, the huge circle of artists which, over the years, has included personalities including Karl Lagerfeld, Sir Mick Jagger and Andy Warhol. Among his favourite people is Argentine painter and fashion designer Vanessa Seward, whose eponymous label has found its way into the wardrobes of Charlotte Casiraghi, Angelina Jolie and the Princess of Wales, and who joined him for our shoot.

Vincent, how did you find this place?

“I found it by chance in 2022, after the pandemic, when like so many people I was looking to make a change. Everyone in the neighbourhood dreams of living on this street. It’s small, private, and hidden behind a wrought-iron gate that you need a code to open. What's more, the apartment is just a stone’s throw from my other home, my studio.”
