LUCA, CLERKENWELL

Tucked behind an unassuming facade on St John Street, Luca is the thinking person's date spot, refined without the performative swagger of some of its city neighbours.

Inside, low-lit, high-spec interiors strike a note of effortless glamour, whether you opt for the Tuscan terrace, all ancient brickwork and glowing fireplace, or the 1940s-esque booths, made for lingering and unapologetically Pinterest-worthy.

It's not just the atmosphere that enchants.

The food, a beautifully calibrated expression of "Britalian" deliciousness, is tuned to perfection. We chose the chef's menu, with wine pairings by the head chef, Robert Chambers, whose cooking deftly marries Italian heritage with local and seasonal produce. Go for the signature snack (moreish parmesan fries) but prepare to be seduced by the delicacy of the crudo of Cornish bream.

ROSI AT THE BEAUMONT, MAYFAIR

This is posh comfort food done properly, under the watchful gaze of Lisa Goodwin-Allen, the Michelin-starred chef of Northcote, Lancashire. Rooted in seasonality and British provenance, the menu offers a modern interpretation of classic British dining.
