Dairy farm audits: Best practice for sustainability

During a recent webinar presented by the Dairy Standard Agency (DSA), the organisation's operations manager and food safety management system (FSMS) auditor, Tania Blignaut, outlined how the DSA’s audit programme continues to adapt in a changing environment.
Blignaut, an expert in dairy farm audits, unpacked the value that farm audits offer, explaining who the DSA auditors are, and highlighting how the DSA Code of Best Practice supports dairy producers in implementing best practices and remaining compliant with regulations. She also clarified the purpose of farm audits and how they relate to sustainability, and also explored key milestones.
Sustainability and compliance
Good agricultural practices (GAPs) focus on food safety, animal health and welfare, biosecurity, and environmental protection, among other priorities. These practices form the foundation of sustainable dairy production. Sustainability builds on this base by also incorporating economic viability, social equity, and transparent governance.
