INDIA'S BEST CEO- The Invisible Powerhouse: How NH Studioz Quietly Took Over Indian Cinema
Outlook Business
|July 2025
In an industry driven by stardom and spectacle, the real power often lies behind the curtain. One such name—rarely in the spotlight but central to Indian cinema's evolution—is NH Studioz. What began as a debt recovery exercise for Narendra Hirawat in the early ‘80s has grown into one of the most influential content empires in Indian entertainment.

While most in the diamond trade measured brilliance by carats, Hirawat saw value in something else—stories. A chance transaction landed him theatrical rights to a film, sparking a lifelong obsession. “The excitement was chaotic, but it gave me clarity,” he recalls.
Building the Empire
Unlike the standard distribution model, Hirawat took a long-term view—acquiring full copyrights to classics like Himalaya Ki God Mein and Hariyali Aur Raasta. “Everyone thought I was overpaying. But I wasn't buying films—I was buying cultural equity,” he says.
