As a company grows, so do the needs of its employees. Just ask ButcherBox founder and CEO Mike Salguero, whose Watertown, Massachusetts-based meat-subscription service skyrocketed from $300,000 in annual revenue in 2015, the year it was founded, to more than $500 million by 2024. Salguero, 44, knew that unless he could find a way to ensure his workers were growing alongside the company, he'd lose them. “I'd prefer to work with people for a long period of time, versus just cycling through people every two or three years,” he says. “We want to radically support our best people and make sure they have all the resources, have great compensation, have equity upside—have every reason to stay at the company.”
