Cultivating A Blossoming Business With Passion And Intention

From wax to stems, Lesego Pitso's professional journey has taken her from a noteworthy candle business to another blooming with potential.

For Lesego Pitso, founder of scented candles company, KandlesByLP, her glowing business is simply an extension of her personality, values, and vision.

Now, that same passion for beauty, detail, and perfection has moved beyond scents and wicks, and into petals and stems.

LP Florals represents Pitso's foray into the world of floristry, where her creativity can blossom alongside concepts like elegance, connection, and, of course, her scented candles.

"People wanted to pair their candles with something extra, like a bouquet, when gifting them, and that inspired me to start LP Florals," says Pitso.

Passion Project

According to the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition, South Africa is currently the third-largest exporter of cut flowers on the African continent, with exports exceeding R1.7 billion ($95.5 million) in 2021.

Pitso admits that she, initially, never saw the business value in the floral industry and, thus, never imagined being a part of it.

However, stepping into the floral industry has not only increased her business acumen, but also developed and deepened her passion for it.

"Over time, I've come to love the creativity that comes with working with flowers and bringing different visions to life." Sourcing her flowers from markets in Gauteng, Pitso purchases fresh flowers that either come directly from farms or are sourced from the auction floor, before creating custom arrangements from scratch.

"For me, that's what truly defines a floral business-being hands-on, creative, and offering something personal.

Anyone can resell a bouquet, but it takes passion and intention to craft one with meaning." Applying this same approach to events, Pitso reveals that she's always present and involved from the planning stage to offering advice, helping to shape the floral concept, and sourcing the freshest flowers based on the event date and requirements.
