State-of-the-art abattoir handed over to farmer

The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) recently handed over a multimillion-rand abattoir to a Hluhluwe farmer.
The state-of-the-art facility was presented to Sphamandla Maphanga, the owner of Phangela Trading and Stock Enterprise in Hluhluwe, northern KZN.
According to DARD Minister Super Zuma, the handover was in line with the department’s vision of positioning black farmers for commercial success by providing funding and holistic agricultural support.
Maphanga said the abattoir was the “miracle” that his farm had been hoping for as they were previously dependent on local businesses to slaughter and process their meat, losing money in the process.
