MEC highlights empowerment at G20 food meeting

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development Thembeni Madlopha Mthethwa delivered a rallying speech at the G20 Food Security Task Force (FSTF) Meeting in late April in Durban, calling on global partners to "empower youth, women and smallholders" and embrace technology to ensure a more resilient and inclusive agriculture sector.

Madlopha-Mthethwa spoke about the province's readiness to contribute meaningfully to global food security efforts, saying: "KwaZulu-Natal presents a significant opportunity for South Africa to make a lasting impact on sustainable agriculture and farmer development." The meeting, which followed the G20 Agriculture Working Group sessions earlier in the week, drew delegates from around the world. The MEC highlighted four key priorities: inclusive market access, youth and women empowerment, innovation and technology transfer, and climate resilience.
