Global, local avocado prices gain some momentum

‘WHILE MARKETS REMAIN SATURATED IN THE EUROPEAN UNION, THINGS ARE LOOKING BETTER’
While avocado prices on the local market remain weak, market conditions have improved slightly as the industry enters the tail end of its harvesting season.
This was according to Clive Garrett, chairperson of the South African Avocado Growers’ Association (SAAGA).
“The crisis is past, and while markets remain [saturated] in the EU, things are looking better,” he told Farmer’s Weekly.
A glut of avocados on international markets resulted in prices falling sharply in recent weeks after an oversupply on the Australian market resulted in that country exporting large volumes of the fruit to non-traditional markets.
