Their travel and learning opportunity stems from the Burgundy Exchange Programme, which originated in 2002 from an agreement between the Western Cape Department of Agriculture and its French equivalent, Bourgogne France Comté, aimed at accelerating professional and personal skills development among underprivileged workers. The programme has been running every year since, except during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Central to the agreement is a strong bilateral relationship between Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute in Stellenbosch and Burgundy’s Centre for Professional Training and Agricultural Promotion.
