Mahindra's Green Strategy Aligns Growth with Climate Goals

ANKIT TODI, Chief Sustainability Officer at Mahindra Group, explains why ESG is more than hygiene, how green revenue is gaining ground, and where clarity is still needed on India's carbon market
THE MAHINDRA Group is integrating environmental and social imperatives deeply into its businesses. At the core of this shift is what it calls the “planet positive strategy”. “Net-zero is not achievable in isolation. It requires collaboration across the entire value chain,” says Mahindra Group’s Chief Sustainability Officer Ankit Todi. This view has shaped the company’s approach, spanning operational efficiency, product innovation, ecosystem enablement, and a shift in business models that better reflect the realities of climate risk and green opportunity.
Three Key Pillars
Mahindra’s sustainability framework is centred on three key pillars. The first is reducing operational emissions across Scope 1 and 2, supported by broader environmental goals, including water conservation, waste management, and promoting circularity in materials. The second is shifting businesses to green offerings, whether it’s the auto business pivoting to electric vehicles, Mahindra Lifespaces developing green-certified buildings, or Club Mahindra adopting sustainable practices across its resorts. The third is leveraging the group’s presence in agriculture to support tree plantation, low-emission practices, and biodiversity conservation.
Todi emphasises that enabling suppliers and partners is equally important. “A crucial part of this transition is enabling our supply chain to adopt sustainable practices, ensuring holistic progress toward net zero,” he says.
