Coastguard sinks drifting project boat

A 60-tonne project boat that was sold by Brixham Marina to its new owners for a nominal fee was sunk by authorities after it drifted in a shipping lane.

Former fishing vessel, the Faithful, which was carrying two tonnes of diesel, was sunk in a 'controlled operation'. On 8 October, HM Coastguard coordinated the response to a report made at about 0105 of a vessel 17 miles south of Looe that had lost power and was taking on water. RNLI all-weather lifeboats from Plymouth and Falmouth were tasked. The two people on board the stricken vessel were transported ashore by the Plymouth lifeboat.
