The Obiqua is a rare example of an off-road trailer that can transform into a camper shell and sleeps up to four people.

Carry me, tow me

When André van der Merwe, owner of Obiqua, realised some reserves allow campers shells but not off-road trailers, he saw an opportunity to solve such situations.

That solution is essentially a camper shell on top of a trailer.

André explains that he didn't want to always sacrifice his bakkie's load bed for a camper shell. The Obiqua T4 is therefore an off-road trailer that can convert into a bakkie camper, making it possible to either tow it behind a bakkie or SUV or load it onto the back of a bakkie.

The left side of the Obiqua T4 has four doors: two in the camper section and two in the trailer. Behind the upper two doors is your camp kitchen, complete with a fold-out gas stove and work surface, an electric kettle and toaster, and storage space for utensils for four people.

imageBehind the lower doors (in the trailer) is storage for two 20 ℓ jerry cans, four camping chairs and a camping table. The doors are dustproof – any dust visible in the photos shown is from frequent opening and closing.

Despite technological advances, and the unrealistic notion held by some that camping is merely a way to show off, the heart of the lifestyle should remain unchanged, says Neels van Heerden.
