It’s crazy. I see so many riders ramp up their training as a new season begins, but this is actually one of the worst things you could do – at this point in the year, the gas should be rolled off in an attempt to maintain the level of physical fitness developed during those long, hard winter months... not rolled on to improve it.
In past issues of Fast Bikes, I’ve touched on the various phases (mesocycles) of physical preparation required to develop the best package possible to win races, each of which are characterised by differing levels of training intensity. In season is most definitely NOT the time to be going hard at it.
