BSA'S BACK
Fast Bikes UK
|October 2025
Now, even we're not quite old enough to really remember BSA as a bike maker. The original firm closed down back in 1971, with the Birmingham Small Arms brand disappearing into the mess that was the British motorcycle industry back then. The name lived on through various owners and is now under Indian ownership, with the giant Mahindra conglomerate as the ultimate parent.

BSA returned with a bang in 2021 when it launched its Gold Star 650, a brand-new retro-roadster with a water-cooled engine based on the old BMW Rotax F650 lump, and now it's released a second model range using its own 350 single engine, initially in a neat roadster called the Bantam.
The original Bantam was a postwar BSA 125, using a German DKW design which was snaffled as part of Second World War reparations and handed over to the Birmingham firm. The little two-stroke was basic as hell but provided the utility transport needed to get Britons moving after the conflict ended. About half a million would be made in various forms, including 150 and 175 versions, and they were a common sight on the road between 1948 and the mid-1970s.

DUCATI STREETFIGHTER V2 S On track...
The fast group of a track day at Donington Park is a pretty far stretch from the natural habitat of the plucky Streetfighter V2, but that's exactly where I found myself on it – and actually loving it.

CLASS OF 2025 TRACK ATTACK
When it comes to getting a proper grasp of a sportsbike, there’s nothing like giving it a proper flogging on track. So, following on from Big Mac’s deep dive into these four reprobates last month, having been in the saddle tearing up His Majesty’s highways, it’s time to crank things up a notch and bounce a few limiters off the walls around our favourite rollercoaster Cadwell Park. Armed with little more than a genny, some tyre warmers, and late autumn sunshine, here’s what went down when we let them off the leash...

UNIDENTICAL TWINS

KTM 990 DUKE On track...
It's fair to say that on track I didn't enjoy the KTM as much as I did on the road. By living in the upper half of the rev range all of the time, it just felt that I couldn't really access the KTM's strongest points.
