Márquez Puts up a Stonewall Assen Defence
Bike India
|August 2025
Marc Márquez may not have been the fastest rider at the 2025 MotoGP Dutch Grand Prix, but his staunch defence proved crucial for his 68th MotoGP victory
ASSEN GENERALLY IS quite a fan and rider favourite on the MotoGP calendar, and it makes sense why that is the case. Apart from the tight and twisty layout, there's a chance of rain to spice things up, and with the field spread being close, a surprise result is a possibility. Qualifying saw the 2021 champion, Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha), continue his one-lap magic form for the season with pole position, with the two-time premier class champion, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), just three hundredths of a second behind in second place and Alex Márquez (Gresini Racing) in third position.
SprintJUST BECAUSE THE SIX-TIME premier class champion, Marc Márquez (Ducati Lenovo Team), lined up fourth, it didn't make much of a difference, for a brilliant start saw him get up to second, and, by the end of the first lap around the GT chicane, the championship leader was the race leader. His brother, Alex, followed that up quickly by overtaking Quartararo, with Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) taking the final podium spot off the Yamaha factory rider. After that, it was pretty much the same story of the 2025 season as the Márquez brothers finished a close first and second, with Bezzecchi rounding off the podium.
