ALVARO BAUTISTA (ARUBA. it Racing - Ducati) was on fire at his home ground, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, in Spain. He set the fastest-ever World Superbike Championship (WSBK) lap on his way to claim pole position. A red flag later in the session meant that riders only had a small window to set decisive times.

Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK) and Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) fought off the others to claim the remaining positions at the front row.
