CANOPIED JOURNEYS

Set along the Saharanpur-Dehradun Highway, The Flowing Canopy by Lines & Thoughts emerges from a client brief that called for more than a conventional roadside food court.
-
The intent was to create a space that could accommodate high footfall while offering a comfortable, engaging, and memorable pause within a largely transient infrastructure setting. In response, the project reinterprets the typology as a layered public environment—one that brings together architecture, landscape, and climate-responsive strategies into a cohesive spatial experience.
The project reimagines the highway food court as a climate-responsive public landscape in which movement and pause are seamlessly integrated.
FLOWING STRUCTUREThe design adopts a contemporary, context-driven approach that could be described as a synthesis of fluid modernism and climate-responsive architecture. Rather than relying on stylistic gestures, the project evolves through a set of key ideas—movement, continuity, and environmental mediation. The primary inspiration is drawn from the dynamics of the highway itself, where flow and pause coexist, translated into an architectural language defined by a continuous canopy that appears to move across the site, unifying the built and unbuilt elements beneath it.
