It’s such an upsetting subject that it’s all too easy to switch off when child sexual abuse is mentioned. But we all know that many children have suffered, and high-profile media reports about appalling abuse by celebrities like Jimmy Savile have brought it to everyone’s attention.

At last, action is being taken to root out this terrible crime once and for all. You may well have heard about the work of the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse. It was set up in 2015 to investigate how institutions failed to protect children from abuse in England and Wales.
