The Saga of Love... Teej

Teej, popularly known as Sawan Mela, is a significant Hindu festival. As the name suggests, it is a regional festival which has been named after an insect called Teej whose arrival marks the onset of monsoons.

It is celebrated with enthusiasm by the women in the northern and western parts of India. It takes place on the third day of Shukla Paksha in Bhadra, normally in the month of August or early September. Women celebrate Teej by fasting and praying to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati for marital bliss. Teej celebrates the love and devotion of a wife towards her husband.
