72 hours with the Galaxy Z Flip

We got a chance to briefly play with Samsung’s second foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Flip

Foldable phones are regarded as the next big thing in the world of smartphones. In the last year alone, we have seen a handful of companies trying to show their version of foldable phones and a few of them, even reaching the customers’ hands. One of them is Samsung. They launched the Galaxy Fold last year that gave us the first taste of the foldable future.

The Korean company is back again and instead of going with the Galaxy Fold’s form factor, they opted for something mobile phone users have used before - clamshells aka flip phones. Galaxy Z Flip is the second phone after Moto RAZR to opt for a flip design and while we think this is the best use of the foldable screen till now, is it worth the hype and the price tag? We try to find in our limited time.

It goes without saying that the Galaxy Z Flip’s design turns some heads. Not because of its flashy design but spotting a clamshell phone is a rarity these days. That said, the phone feels solid and is compact enough to fit with ease. The tiny screen on the outside is good enough to see incoming calls, texts, notifications and time but we would have appreciated a larger display like the Moto RAZR. The decision to go with a 1.1-inch Super AMOLED minuscule display seems to be the impact on the battery life, which has a capacity of 3300mAh and in our use got about a day’s worth of juice before charging it again.
