The World Road Statistics Report 2018 states that India sits at the top in the list of countries with the most number of road accidents followed closely by China and the USA. The 2018 WHO Global Report on Road Safety also suggests that India accounts for almost 11% of road-accident related deaths in the world. Lack of compliance with rules and regulations and the lack of strict enforcement of laws are some major elements that contribute to these statistics. Thankfully, the New Motor Vehicles Act of 2019 came as a boon for improving road safety in our country.

Automation, as most of us are aware, has played a significant role in most sectors and is now making cities and their roads smarter and more high-tech. This influx of technology has made lives fairly easier. Although countries like the US and China already have smart cities and are ahead of the rest of the world, developing economies like India are quickly catching up in an attempt to make the country more efficient in terms of road traffic management.
