THE CLIMAX of the cricket season serves up tales of agony and ecstasy and sometimes both – just ask Stanmore’s Steven Reingold.
The Middlesex League opener knew his side needed to chase Richmond’s 256-8 to give themselves a chance of remaining in the division, a task they undertook with aplomb as Reingold carried his bat and scored 113 not out to lead them to a five-wicket victory.
But with three overs to go and Reingold on the cusp of engineering a miraculous survival story, he was delivered the news that Finchley had won their game against Ealing and that – whatever happened – Stanmore were relegated.
And almost a week on, Reingold was still hurting from the pain of the news.
