The player retention list for IPL 2021 was announced recently by all franchises, ahead of the auction. A number of big names who under-performed in the 2020 edition of the IPL in the UAE were released by their respective franchises. The list includes Steve Smith (who led Rajasthan Royals last season), Glenn Maxwell (Kings XI Punjab), Aaron Finch (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Alex Carey (Delhi Capitals) and Sheldon Cottrell (Kings XI Punjab) among others. It has been a trend for a number of released players to be re-picked at the auction. Here’s a look at six names who can get high bids again.
1. GLENN MAXWELL (PREDICTED AMOUNT: AROUND RS 6 CRORE, POSSIBLE NEW FRANCHISE: RAJASTHAN ROYALS)
Glenn Maxwell had a forgettable IPL 2020 for Kings XI Punjab. Purchased for a whopping Rs 10.75 crore, the Aussie big-hitter was one of the biggest duds of the tournament. Not surprisingly, he has been released by KXIP. But, it will be an equally big surprise if Maxwell goes unsold at the 2021 auction. His monstrous-hitting abilities could attract bids again, although not as high as last time. Rajasthan Royals have released Steve Smith and all-rounder Tom Curran. With a purse of Rs 34.85 crore left, they could afford to look at Maxwell as a batting all-rounder option.
