Zwift Worlds Selection Ruffles Feathers

Some of Britain’s best ranked Zwifters have been left disgruntled by British Cycling’s decision to freeze many of them out of its squad for the first UCI World Championships on Zwift.

The team for the inaugural Zwift World Championships was announced last week and included a number of riders who had a minimal track record of racing on Zwift. No one CW spoke to questioned the team’s athletic ability but pointed out Zwift is a game that you need to know how to play as well as having powerful legs.

Alice Lethbridge, currently ranked as among the 20 best women in the world on the platform said: “You obviously have to be able to cycle well, but it is a game and you have to know how to play the game. It’s been a steep learning curve for me, I got spat out of the back of some races early on, because I did not know how to play.
