After racing across Europe last season Thomas Mein got his account off to a winning start in the National Trophy Cyclo-cross Series in Derby on Sunday.
The under-23 rider from the North East had to fight his way back to the front after a heavy fall in the first half of the race as torrential rain made conditions slippery at Moorways Leisure Centre.
Competing against a host of Belgian visitors, Mein only reached the early leaders Jarno Bellens (Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal) and Braam Merlier (Creafin-TUV SUD) with just over a lap remaining.
