Cycling fans flock to French races in their millions each year - these are the wonders they go to see

Tour de France, 27 July 2018
Fans await the arrival of the Tour peloton in the Pyrenean mist. Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma) would try his best to unseat Geraint Thomas (Ineos) from the top step but to no avail

Critérium National de la Route, March 1939
Frenchmen Emile Maréchal and Fernand Mithouard ford their way through the rain in the Critérium National de la Route near Paris in 1939. Note the rather spectacular way the team car is carrying spare wheels

Tour de France, 19 July 2018
Geraint Thomas (Ineos) leads the GC group through Dutch Corner on the way up Alpe d’Huez. He’d become the first Brit to win at the summit as he swung wide around a corner and outsprinted his rivals. He is also the only person to win in yellow on the Alpe if you don’t count that Texan who got banned
