National title won in under two minutes

The hill-climb National Championships took centre stage this week after it was won by just one-fifth of a second on the 666-yard climb of Yorks Hill in Kent. Many readers will instantly recognise this as the Catford promotion that before last year’s cancellation claimed to be the longest continually running bicycle race in existence, having started in 1887.

The win went to Peter Graham – his second hill-climb title – with a time of one minute and 56.2 seconds, said to be the closest, and shortest, hill-climb championship ever.
