Poll panel’s decision was based on a trailer, says court; CJI asks for a report in sealed cover by Friday

The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Election Commission to watch PM Narendra Modi fully before deciding whether or not to stay the film’s public screening.

A Bench, led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, asked the Election Commission to send a report to the court in a sealed cover by Friday.

The court found that the Election Commission had “no occasion to watch” the film before passing its interim order on April 10, staying its release till further orders. It seemed the Election Commission had taken the decision on the basis of a trailer, it said. “Consider the matter once again,” the court said.
