Court to hear Joshi plea today; ex-Dy CM moves a caveat application too

With the Rajasthan High Court set to pronounce its order on the plea filed by the rebel Congress MLAs, Rajasthan Speaker CP Joshi on Wednesday approached the Supreme court to get a stay on the high court proceedings.

In his plea, the Speaker has sought a bar on the high court proceedings, on grounds that a court is constitutionally barred from interfering in work of the legislature, which is under the authority of the Speaker.

“Proceedings under the Tenth Schedule before the Speaker are proceedings of the Legislature and as such cannot interfered with...” the plea said.

The plea has challenged the high court’s July 21 order, which had “directed” the Speaker to not take action against pleas to disqualify the rebel MLAs who have come out in support of on former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot.
