Nrai Boss Backs Oly Quota Winners

THE rise of Indian shooting on the world stage, with superlative performances in all the four ISSF World Cups this year, has caught the imagination of all. With nine quota places sealed, one may get an impression this is almost the maximum. However, Raninder Singh, president, National Rifle Association of India, feels another four quotas can be easily won.

In a freewheeling chat with Mail Today on Monday, Raninder, also vice president of the world body (ISSF), said the Asian Championship to be held in Doha this November offers more quotas.

“I am happy India are No.1 in medals tally in all the four World Cups this year and this includes the latest World Cup in Rio. Both, our seniors and juniors are doing well, ahead of Chinese shooters,” said Raninder.

“Shooting is one Olympic sport where we (India) look placed well and our nine shooters can compete in 15 events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. I am very hopeful four more quota places will come in Doha. It should be in air rifle (men), two in trap (one each men and women) and one in the men’s 25-metre event,” added Raninder.
