PM Modi’s lockdown call puts the future of event under uncertainty

The rise of COVID-19 outbreak has already impacted many sporting events across the world. Like Tokyo Olympics got postponed for an year, it is now believed that the Indian cricket board (BCCI) might too announce cancelling of the Indian Premier League soon.

Struggling with the plan of IPL 2020 scheduling, the BCCI on Tuesday faced heartbreak when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 21-day complete lockdown from midnight tonight in the wake of COVID-19.

The cash-rich was originally scheduled to start on March 29 in Mumbai with a bumper clash between last year’s finalists Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. But following the virus outbreak, the BCCI decided to postpone the tournament for at least April 15.

MAIL TODAY has learnt that the ‘complete lockdown’ announced by Modi might continue even after it gets over on April 15.
