STEVE Smith assured Jack Leach in the aftermath of the final Test that he was not poking fun at him when he donned glasses to celebrate Australia’s Ashes triumph — but England’s new cult batting hero would not have minded if he had.

The pair posed at the Oval as both teams came together for a post-Ashes drink on Sunday when Leach, whose batting in glasses during his extraordinary stand at Headingley with Ben Stokes became one of the images of the Ashes, told Smith no offence had been taken.
