Lavrov raises WWII prospect and accuses NATO of arming proxy.Truss says a Putin victory would cause untold global misery

RUSSIAN foreign minister Sergey Lavrov yesterday raised the chilling prospect of World War III and even a nuclear conflict.

In a series of interviews, Russia's top diplomat raised the stakes in the war with Ukraine by making a series of incendiary remarks.

And Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said last night that if Russia won the war there would be terrible consequences across the globe”.

Lavrov's comments came as Russia claimed to have killed 500 Ukraine soldiers overnight after hitting a series of military targets.

He said: NATO, in essence, is engaged in a war with Russia through a proxy and is arming that proxy.

He criticised Ukraine's approach to peace talks, saying: Goodwill has its limits. But if it isn't reciprocal, that doesn't help the negotiation process.
