No.8 Simmonds, 26, who scored a Premiership record 21 tries last season, was able to push the pain of last month’s loss to Harlequins to the back of his mind almost immediately.
Just over 24 hours after the final whistle at Twickenham, he was on a plane to South Africa along with Chiefs teammates Stuart Hogg, Jonny Hill and Luke Cowan-Dickie, below.
Simmonds feels it was the best thing for him, as it helped focus his attention on winning the Test series that gets underway next Saturday.
Simmonds told The Rugby Paper: “The Premiership final was a very disappointing result, but the boys who came here had to move on very quickly – we were on the flight at 9.30 pm on the Sunday after playing on Saturday.
“So it was straight onto the next thing; it was great to put my mind onto something else and forget about the Premiership final for a while.
