Ford Warns Smith To Get Ready For Target Practice
GEORGE Ford is gearing himself up for a fresh battle for the England No.10 jersey with the precocious teenager tipped to be a huge future international star.
The Leicester fly-half insists it is a positive thing for him and the national side that exciting Harlequins prospect Marcus Smith is breathing down his neck and keeping him on his toes.
But he warns his new Philippine-born rival that now he is making a name for himself he can expect to be targeted by rivals eager to bring him back down to earth with a bump.
Eddie Jones certainly rates the 18-year-old highly and is toying with the idea of giving him a taste of the Twickenham action in November when Argentina, Australia and Samoa try and derail the formidable England bandwagon.
It could put some pressure on Ford, 24, who has no intention of relinquishing the shirt with the count down to Japan 2019 firmly under way.
